💬Team Communication

Communicating clearly is key for working together effectively, hitting our goals, and sustaining an enjoyable culture.

As a diverse, international team with different life experiences, flexibility, respect, and honesty enable us to communicate well. We mainly use Slack for internal chats, email for external communications, and text for time-sensitive things requiring immediate attention. Please try to respond to messages within the day between 8AM - 8PM.

Slack Communication (Internal)

Slack provides a great platform for real-time messaging, file sharing, and team collaboration. Here are some tips for effective Slack communication:

  • Channel organization - Use relevant channels for specific topics to avoid clutter and keep conversations focused.

    • "arma-general" is a general channel for organization wide communication.

    • “proj-“ for specific projects (Brain Washed, Kings of Chaos, etc.)

    • “team-“ for groups of people that collaborate consistently.

  • Clear, concise messages - Keeping messages clear and to-the-point makes them easier to read. Proper grammar and punctuation are encouraged.

  • Threaded convos - Discussing something? Threads help minimize distractions for others. We appreciate this. Read how to start a thread in Slack

  • @mentions - Directly tag team members when needed, but avoid over-tagging to prevent notification overload.

  • Quick responses - Try to respond promptly, but if unable to, just acknowledge the message and indicate when you can follow up. We get it, things come up!

Email Communication (External)

Email allows us to communicate professionally with subscribers, partners, and other external contacts. Here are email best practices:

  • Professional friendly tone - Use proper greetings and signatures in emails to promote our brand.

  • Descriptive subject lines - Accurate, concise subjects help recipients prioritize and organize emails. We value this.

  • Brevity and clarity - Getting to the point quickly and concisely is appreciated. Lists and bullets can improve readability.

  • Proper attachments - Include relevant, clearly labeled attachments in compatible formats. This extra context is helpful.

  • Message threads - When replying/forwarding, please keep previous messages intact for context. Summarizing threads is very helpful.

Text Communication (Urgent/Immediate)

Let's reserve texting for time-sensitive matters requiring immediate attention. Here are some texting tips:

  • Emergencies only - Please use sparingly and only for urgent issues so we can focus texts on critical needs.

  • Clear, direct messages - Concise, direct texts avoid confusion. Simply state the issue/request.

  • Consider timing - Be mindful of when texting others. Avoid late night/early morning texts unless an emergency.

  • Follow up - If no timely reply, consider other channels like Slack or email. We know life gets busy!

Please feel free to provide any feedback to improve this handbook as a resource. We appreciate your perspectives to refine it for future team members!
